Dubai Customs has seized 64 live falcons being smuggled in a vegetable truck at the Hatta border crossing.
The falcons had been carefully hidden behind a container of vegetables.
The illegal shipment of smuggled falcons has now been handed over to the veterinary quarantine department of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment at the border crossing.
Falcons are typically used to assist in hunting birds. But as you can see from the images, the birds have been tied up and look very uncomfortable.
“Dubai Customs spares no efforts to protect all endangered animals and plants from the hazards of these rogue activities,” said Humaid Al Rasheed, Director of Land Customs Centres Management at Dubai Customs.
Border police have so far made 44 different seizures this year. But this is the first time a flock of falcons has been caught at the border.
