8th case of Coronavirus confirmed in the UAE

The eighth case of coronavirus has been confirmed in the UAE after an Indian national was diagnosed.

The infected patient caught the Coronavirus after interacting with a recently diagnosed patient.

“The Ministry of Health and Prevention announced today the eighth confirmed case of new #coronavirus in the UAE, which is an Indian national who had interacted with a recently diagnosed person,” UAE’s health department said in a tweet.

Six patients stable, one in intensive care

The Ministry also gave an update on the health of the current Coronavirus patients.

Of the eight cases, one is in intensive care, while six others are stable and one has already made a full recovery.

“All reported cases are in stable condition, except for one case, who is being put under close observation by a team of senior consultants at the Intensive Care Unit,” a statement by the Ministry said.

Over 1,000 dead worldwide

The UAE has already taken measures to halt the spread of the Coronavirus which to date has killed over 1,000 and infected over 40,000.

Flights to and from China have been suspended while the Ministry of Health and Prevention has a series of precautions in place.

“The patients were identified through the continuous periodic screening being conducted in accordance with the standards of the World Health Organisation for people with symptoms of the new coronavirus,” state news agency Wam reported.

The Ministry also urged the public to follow preventive procedures “including washing hands with soap and clean water, and covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing to stop the spread of germs and viruses,” the statement said.
