A massive fire broke out in Sharjah overnight

A massive fire broke out in a residential tower in Al Nahda in Sharjah last night with 12 people injured and five taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

The fire is reported to have started at 9.40 pm on Tuesday night on the 10th floor before moving quickly up the building’s cladding.

Residents of the 49-storey building were quickly evacuated by the Sharjah Civil Defence who were on call within minutes.

The Sharjah Civil Defence finally brought the massive fire under control after two hours. Meanwhile, the Sharjah Police Air Wing were also called into action and there were five ambulances on the site.

Worryingly, chunks of burnt building rained down on cars people during the blaze. And according to eye-witness reports, several residents were injured in the rush to evacuate the building.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Thankfully, there were no confirmed casualties.
