Bollywood star Aamir Khan leads the star cast for upcoming movie ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ with Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif.
Based on battle with the British Empire
Vijay Krishna Acharya’s latest action directorial takes inspiration from the 1839 novel ‘Confessions of a Thug’ by British administrator Philip Meadows Taylor, based on Khudabaksh Azaad (Amitabh Bachchan), a thug whose gang increasingly becomes a threat to the British Empire during the end of the 18th century as they aspire for freedom. To tackle Azad, British Commander John Clive (Lloyd Owen) sends the notoriously young thug Firangi Mallah(Amir Khan) to manipulate Azaad and his gang’s dominance.
Most expensive Bollywood movie
Surpassing ‘Bahubali2: The Conclusion’s record of Rs250 Crores (Dhs128m), ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ production cost a whopping Rs300 crores (Dhs154m) according to DNA India. With the star cast and a Diwali release, the film is expected to break box office records and enter the 400 crore club.
First Amitabh-Aamir collaboration
For decades, the two film icons ruled Bollywood and earned enormous success in the film industry, but never starred together. Their closest collaboration was in the 1999 classic melodrama ‘Lagaan,’ with Aamir Khan playing the lead role of Bhuvan and Amitabh Bachchan narrating the film. Whereas, Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif starred in the third installment of the ‘Dhoom’ franchise while Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif appeared together in ‘Sarkar.’
Man oh, man! Even though the trailer mostly received positive reviews, few fans were disappointed by the film’s theme claiming similarities to the ‘Pirates of the Carribean’, portraying Aamir Khan as the Jack Sparrow of the film and identifying similarities between the two. Amitabh Bachchan wasn’t spared either, as some believe his character takes inspiration from the character ‘Hector,’ played by Geoffery Rush.
