Abu Dhabi residents can now volunteer for Russian vaccine

Abu Dhabi is looking for 500 volunteers to take part in the last stage of trials for the Russian ‘Sputnik V’ vaccine.

Candidates for the vaccine need to be 18 or over and based in Abu Dhabi. They can’t have had an infectious disease within the past 14 days and must not be taking part in any other vaccine trials. Importantly, they can’t have previously had Covid.

If you’re accepted on the vaccine programme, you’ll get two doses of the vaccine 20 days apart. And you’ll be monitored with visits and online check ups during that period.

‘A great day for humanity’ as new Coronavirus vaccine has 90% success rate

A major new Coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech has a 90% success rate and has already been deployed in the UK.

“Today is a great day for science and humanity. The first set of results from our Phase 3 Covid-19 vaccine trial provides the initial evidence of our vaccine’s ability to prevent COVID-19,” said Pfizer chairman and chief executive Dr Albert Bourla.

“With today’s news, we are a significant step closer to providing people around the world with a much-needed breakthrough to help bring an end to this global health crisis,” he added.

The Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine is just one of many being developed around the world. They say they can supply 50 million doses by the end of this year. And up that to 1.3 billion by the end of 2021.

Maybe, just maybe, next year will bring better news!
