World’s longest desert ultra-run Al Marmoom Ultramarathon is taking place from 11th-15th December at the recently-opened Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.
270 km-long ultramarathon at Al Marmoom
From thrill seekers to athletes and sports professionals, the ultramarathon poses a challenge for every resident to run across Al Marmoom Reserve’s desert terrain. Participants can either opt for a continuous 50 km race, 100 km race or an incomprehensible 270 km race, which can be completed after a course of four days. The race is open to both individuals and teams.
Huge cash prize for ultramarathon champions
Winners will be rewarded with trophies and cash prizes, ranging from $1,000(Dhs3.65k) to $6,000(Dhs22k). First position male and female in the 270 km race win $6,000(Dhs22k) each, followed by $4,000(Dhs14.7k) each for the 100 km race and $3,000(Dhs11k) each for the 50 km race. Winning teams will be rewarded with trophies. Plus, there are particular categories for winners, including Emiratis and participants aged 50 and above. You can check the list of prizes here.
Race accompanied with UAE wildlife
Besides the race, participants can get a chance to spot UAE’s animal and plant species. Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve is home to 204 species of native birds, 158 species of migratory birds, the Arabian Oryx, Sand Gazelle and much more. One of the famous places covered in the race is the road trip hotspot Al Qudra, encompassing 10 km of lakes.
