All UAE malls to close and flights grounded as Coronavirus measures tighten

The UAE government is urging all residents to stay home as they tighten the Coronavirus measures in the country with malls and markets to close in the next two days.

All UAE malls and markets are to close by March 25 according to state news site WAM.

Essential stores including supermarkets and pharmacies will remain open. And essential trips for families are still allowed.

While some outlets were open under severe restrictions, the government has now confirmed that all cafes and restaurants are to close and only offer home delivery.

The closures will initially take place for two weeks and could be repeated if needed.

All flights to be suspended within 48 hours

Under the new measures, the UAE will also cancel all inbound and outbound flights within 48 hours.

While passenger services are grounded, cargo and emergency evacuation flights will continue to run, according to the Civil Aviation Authority.

“Additional examination and isolation arrangements will be taken later should flights resume, in order to ensure the safety of passengers, aircrews and airport personnel and their protection from infection risks,” it said.

It’s not all doom and gloom, however. Countries are hard at work on a vaccine, with some ready as soon as next month!
