Amazon launches Alexa in Khaleeji Arabic

Amazon has announced that Alexa, their virtual assistant technology, can now speak and understand Khaleeji Arabic.

The new Alexa can recite the Quran, book you a ride through Careem or tell you what’s happening at Expo 2020 Dubai today.

And she’ll now be able to understand both English and Khaleeji Arabic.

Alexa can be used for a huge range of tasks. It can set timers and alarms, control your lights at home or give you the latest sports scores. And thanks to its Middle East upgrade, it’s now been given a much-welcome local touch.

One way to use Alexa, says Raf Fatani, regional general manager for Alexa in the MENA region, is to say “Alexa, wake me up for Fajr and their bedroom blinds will gently open at the right time.”

“We’re incredibly excited to bring Alexa and the Echo family of devices to the UAE,” says Tom Taylor, senior vice president, Amazon Alexa. “The team has worked hard to create an all-new Khaleeji Arabic experience designed from the ground up for Arabic-speaking customers and to optimise the Alexa experience in English for English-speakers to enjoy.”

The Amazon Echo featuring the Khaleeji Arabic upgrade will start shipping from December 14.
