Bahrain shuts down all schools, cafes and restaurants – could Dubai be heading for lockdown as well?

Bahrain has moved to lockdown and closed all eat-in cafes and restaurants and moved all schools to remote learning for three weeks as it struggles to cope with Covid-19.

The decision will come into effect from Sunday. The ministry of health said it was due to a new variant of the Coronavirus, but did not say which one.

Bahrain has seen a surge in cases recently. There were 459 new cases on Wednesday and a total just short of 100,000 cases.

But with Bahrain heading towards a new lockdown, are the rumours of a Dubai lockdown looking more likely?

The UAE’s cases have spiked this year, with positive tests regularly over 3,000 a day. The last time we had such a high rate of cases, the UAE underwent a strict curfew and lockdown.

Dubai has already suspended all entertainment in the region. And it’s also shut down any non-urgent surgery for the next month.

But with Bahrain effectively heading into lockdown, will the UAE follow and head into a lockdown while the vaccine continues to be rolled out?
