Music meets the waterfront at Yas Island’s premier beach festival, Club Social from 29th-30th March, with headlining sets by alternative rock group Bastille and Egyptian hip-hop sensations Oka Wi Ortega.
Bastille headlining day one at Club Social
It’s quite a turnaround for a band that started off as the solo act of frontman Dan Smith. The French artist joined forces with bassist Will Farquarson, Kyle Simmons on keyboard and drummer Chris Wood to form Bastille in 2010. The band shot to fame in 2013 for their hit single, “Pompeii,” a song that got the world humming to the “hey-oo” phrase. Their success on the charts continued with songs like “Good Grief,” “Flaws,“ ”Quarter Past Midnight” and their recent hit with Marshmello, “Happier.”

If anyone can truly represent the rap game in the Arab world, it has to be Oka Wi Ortega. The trio rose to prominence in recent years, thanks to hits like “Dalaa Banat”, “Hab We Dab,” “Eh Ya Ragel Enta Da,” “Ela Rohi,” “Aaresna Ebn El Bald” and their viral 2017 hit, “El3ab Yala.” They’re no strangers to our city, having performed at Meydan party hotspot White Dubai last year.
