Football fans in Abu Dhabi were taken by surprise seeing Roberto Carlos visit tourist hotspots Louvre Abu Dhabi and Yas Mall during the weekend. Lucky football fans got a chance to meet with the former FIFA World Cup champion. His visit marks the two-month countdown before the FIFA Club World Cup begins.

“Unmissable opportunity” for football fans

Bidding successfully against Japan an Brazil in 2015, the UAE was officially announced as the hosts of the 2017 and 2018 edition. The matches will be played in Abu Dhabi’s Zayed Sports City Stadium and Al Ain’s Hazza bin Zayed Stadium. Speaking about FIFA Club World Cup happening in the UAE, Carlos describes it an “incredible chance” to witness a clash between “some of the world’s best players and club teams.” He said, “With two world-class stadiums and some of the world’s best clubs already confirmed to play, this year’s FIFA Club World Cup will be an unmissable opportunity for fans to watch their footballing heroes and to have a truly memorable experience in the UAE.”

Real Madrid eyeing for a fourth title

Defending FIFA Club World Cup champions Real Madrid are confirmed to play in the upcoming edition, alongside Italy’s Guadalajara, New Zealand’s Team Wellington and host team Al Ain who qualified for the tournament. Although the Spanish football club is a clear favourite to win the title, Carlos is confident the opposing teams will put up a tough fight and are “eager to test themselves against the best.” He said “Great players and great teams want to show they are the very best at every opportunity and I know Real Madrid will want to win this trophy for a third straight year. The other teams and continental champions will also be eager to test themselves against the best, to seize their chance and win a tournament that represents the pinnacle of international club football.”
