The Premier League has suspended all football matches until at least April 3 in response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The ban extends to the Premier League, Football League, Women’s Super League and Championship. Several Premier League clubs confirmed they had players and staff with the virus.
The Premier League said in a statement: “The Premier League, FA, EFL and WSL have collectively agreed to postpone the professional game in England. Following a meeting of shareholders today, it was unanimously decided to suspend the Premier League with the intention of returning on 4 April, subject to medical advice and conditions at the time.”
The Champions League and the Europa League have also suspended their games. But they’ve yet to announce when postponed games might be played. There’s also the small matter of Euro 2020 to come this year as well!
That the Premier League is suspended is obviously good news from a containment point of view.
But Liverpool fans must be pretty frantic as they’re just a few games away from securing their first title since 1990.
Also, what are we supposed to watch at the weekend now that the Premier League has been cancelled and we’re all self-isolating?
Bring on Season 4 of Stranger Things then!
