Breaking: UAE Tour cancelled as two riders test positive for Coronavirus

The UAE Tour has been cancelled with just two stages remaining after two Italian team members tested positive for coronavirus.

The road-cycling stage race is part of the UCI World Tour and featured some of the best riders and teams in the world.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the race organisers, said that “safety comes at the top of all priorities.”

All UAE Tour riders and staff, including four-time Tour De France winner Chris Froome, are now being tested for the Coronavirus.

More than 80,000 people in nearly 50 countries have been infected by Coronavirus. Almost 2,800 people have died, with the majority of deaths in China.

But while cases are slowing down in China, they’re increasingly spreading across the world, with Italy and Iran major centres of infection.

The UAE’s ministry of health and prevention revealed that six new cases of Coronavirus have also been confirmed.

The UAE’s ministry said all riders, staff and organisers will be examined through “continuous periodic screening” and quarantine measures will be taken to “curb the spread of its outbreak”.

They’ve also posted details of what you should do if you appear to have respiratory infection.
