Burj Khalifa’s #10YearChallenge Reflects Dubai’s Sprawling Skyline

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably noticed friends and celebrities take up the #10YearChallenge. In the middle of the latest social media fad, Burj Khalifa took has taken up the challenge, showcasing how far the city has progressed over the past decade.

As part of the viral trend, Burj Khalifa accepted the challenge with a then-and-now photo of its structure standing tall on the city’s skyline. The 828-metre tall structure is shown as the only standing structure in Downtown, beside Dubai Mall, The Address hotel and plots of land in construction back in 2009. Ten years later, the architectural marvel is surrounded with the Downtown promenade, Dubai Opera and dazzling buildings around Downtown. Talk about progress!

Not the only time Burj Khalifa has been in the limelight

Burj Khalifa is the centre of attention for its New Year’s Eve celebrations and high-octane adventurous spectacles. The iconic structure also caught everyone’s attention when Tom Cruise swung around its windows shooting ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ and was struck by a giant wave in Gerard Butler’s 2017 film, ‘Geostorm.’

World’s tallest tower in the works in Dubai

One of the most hyped projects that are getting close to reality is the construction of The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour. Projected At 828 metres, the tower will surpass Tokyo Skytree as the tallest tower in the world. It will be home to observation decks and restaurants. The Tower’s development is expected to be completed by 2021.
