The UAE is to start building its own Covid-19 vaccine production line in the country after signing a deal with the Chinese drugmaker Sinopharm.
The UAE and China collaborated on the Sinopharm vaccine, including holding Phase 3 trials in the UAE.
And the new project means that the UAE will have access to its own vaccine. The partnership could “revolutionise the life sciences industry in the region over the coming years,” according to Liu Jingzhen, chairman of Sinopharm.
“Today we celebrate the significant milestones achieved by our strategic partnership across all levels. We are continuing the efforts that we initiated at the onset of the Covid-19 crisis,” Sheikh Abdullah said.
Could the UAE’s new quantum computer solve the world’s problems?
Staying with the nation’s capital, Abu Dhabi is building the UAE’s first quantum computer. And it’s hoped its supercomputing power can answer some of the biggest questions in the world.
According to researchers, those big questions could be finding a cure for cancer or even discovering how the universe was created. It’s also hoped the quantum computer could tackle climate change.
The Abu Dhabi supercomputer is being built at the Quantum Research Centre labs in Abu Dhabi alongside Barcelona-based Qilimanjaro Quantum Tech.
“We are at the cusp of a new era with the advent of quantum computing,” Faisal Al Bannai, secretary-general of the Advanced Technology Research Council, told The National.
“We are proud to embark on building one of these wonderful machines.”
