Deliveroo has opened the world’s largest ‘dark kitchen’ in Dubai to cope with the takeaway boom in the city.
And if you’re wondering what a dark kitchen is and if it involves many painful knife-based accidents, wonder no more.
A dark kitchen – also known as virtual or cloud kitchens – is a delivery only kitchen. It’s not open to the public and you can’t walk in and grab a burger.
And the Deliveroo Editions dark kitchen will host 12 separate kitchens, all cooking food for their online-only customers.
The Deliveroo dark kitchen joins three others across the city. And with food delivery demand soaring in the past 18 months due to the pandemic, expect more to be built soon.
Deliveroo reported a 114% global increase in food orders during the first three months of this year compared to last year.
The company were one of the first to invest in ‘dark kitchens’ back in 2017. And with demand only set to increase, this could well be the future of food manufacturing in the region!
