Doctors referred to court

Doctors Involved In Nose Job Which Left Woman In Coma Face Charges

An Emirati woman has been in a coma since April following a nose job which went badly wrong. The three medics involved have been referred to Dubai Court for medical negligence and malpractice.

Negligence in the operating theatre

The woman ended up in a coma after a rapid drop in her blood pressure led to a cardiac arrest and brain damage. Negligence is said to have been committed by the surgeon (an ear, nose and throat specialist), the anaesthetist and his assistant. Claims have been made that the anaesthetist took a break during the surgery to get a coffee and smoke. The complications are thought to have occurred during the time that the anaesthetist was not present in the operating theatre. This latest news comes following updates made to the case by Dubai Health Authority.

Patient has permanent disabilities following the incident

Chancellor Essam Eisa Al Humaidan, Attorney General of Dubai has referred the three medics to court for mistakes that led to 24-year-old Rawdha Abdulla Al Maeeni suffering permanent disabilities. Rawdha is now living with mental and physical abilities which include the loss of her sight and hearing. She now requires full time medical support.

“It is clear that this must now be considered a criminal case of medical malpractice due to the negligence which occurred both before and during Rowda’s procedure. The medical facility was never an appropriate place for her operation as it does not have the equipment or resources to handle the procedure or the potential complications that did, unfortunately, occur in this case.”
