Dubai charities helped 83 million people in 82 countries last year

Dubai charities used AED1.2 billion on various projects around the world to help 83 million people in 82 different countries.

And despite the problems faced in 2020, it was the most successful year yet for the Global Initiatives charity.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai announced the news via Twitter.

To put that into context, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives’ (MBRGI) humanitarian and social projects helped 71 million people in 2019.

“Our faith in humanitarian work grows stronger every year,” said HH Sheikh Mohammed.

“We carry out more projects, attract more partners and serve more people. From the Union House that witnessed the UAE’s formation, we say: the UAE will remain a beacon of hope for the entire region.”

Sheikh Mohammed praised the 121,000 volunteers involved during 2020, who showed ‘competence, courage and determination in the face of the pandemic”.

And he stressed that Dubai charities will “continue creating hope across the world, regardless of any circumstances”.

“We will heed the call of humanity wherever it takes us. As we continue our work every year, our determination to fulfil our vision grows stronger. We attract more partners and serve more people. And our conviction that humanitarian work is essential to reigniting civilisation burns brighter.”
