The Dubai government moved quickly to shut down an immigration company that was offering ‘assistance’ for getting UAE Citizenship.
An investigation by the Dubai Economy and The Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection revealed that the company made false promises to help obtain citizenship.
The office had taken in citizenship applications without authorisation. And the company had promised investors to help with citizenship as long as they had AED100 million and paid $10,000 for a processing fee.
Under the recent citizenship changes, there are no fees involved.
Sheikh Mohammed announces citizenship for foreigners
The UAE recently opened up citizenship to foreign “investors, doctors, scientists or researchers, creative talents like authors, inventors and their families are eligible to be nominated for citizenship by the UAE Cabinet, local Emiri or Rulers’ Courts, and executive councils of the seven emirates.”
The new rules came into effect at the end of January. And according to Sheikh Mohammed, it’s been done to “attract talents that contribute to our development journey.”
