Dubai International Airport could soon have Check-ins using just selfies

Technology has really come a long way and soon there could be some really impressive changes at airports…. like using a selfie to check in!

In the near future, we could do away with queuing up altogether at airports as a Portugal-based tech firm works with Dubai’s aviation entities to make this happen.

No more check-ins at Dubai International Airport?

Vision-Box is the company behind the new technology and they are also responsible for  previously helping set up smart gates and biometric systems at Dubai International Airport (DXB).

They are now in talks to radically change the face of one of the world’s busiest airports.

Speaking about the possible future changes,  Osama Nawayseh, Middle East Sales Manager at Vision-Box says:

“In the future, the mobility of the passenger – and the technology provided to automate the passenger movement – is part of the airport design. There are no barriers, there are no doors – you simply walk to the departure gates and just go to the aircraft. It saves time (and) instead of expanding your airport, you just maintain the same space you have.

He added that they are having a brainstorming discussion with different authorities such as Dubai Immigration, Emirates airline and Dubai Airports to implement the new technology.

Nawayseh noted that it will be easier for the government to maintain security and also allow them to implement new measures.

What about Selfie-registration?

Last year Emirates airline rolled out a facility called a ‘biometric path’, which uses facial and iris recognition to allow their passengers to check in and also complete formalities by simply strolling through the airport.

Vision Box is now working together with Emirates to further enhance the check-in experience by allowing the customer to just take a selfie at home before heading to the airport! Using an airlines’ mobile app, travellers would be able to register before their flight simply by uploading a face image and other documents!

How amazing would that be!
