Brace yourself for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the longest lunar eclipse happening this century and Dubai has been ranked among the best spots to witness the spectacle.
Lunar eclipse is happening on July 27th
Lucky for Dubai residents, the occasion is happening on a weekend! US news magazine TIME reported that the lunar eclipse will take place on Friday, July 27th from 11:30 pm till Saturday, July 28th 1:13 am (local time). It’s expected to be the longest lunar eclipse to happen this century. Save the date!
Here’s why Dubai has been chosen
Parts of the world like North America and North East Russia will not be able to witness the ‘Blood Moon’ eclipse at all while western Europe, South America, Australia and the Far East will only be able to witness parts of the eclipse while the main regions that can witness the eclipse fully are Middle East, East Africa, Central Asia and parts of South East Asia, the main reason being clear skies.
Four more cities are among the list
Besides Dubai, the other four spots are Cairo, Harare, Santorini and Limassol. People in Cairo and Harare won’t have to stay awake till midnight to witness the spectacle since it begins at 9:30 pm-11:30 pm in Cairo whilst from 9:30 pm-11:13 pm in Harare. Plus, the Cypriot city of Limassol and the Greek city of Santorini will witness the spectacle from 10:30 pm till 12:13 am and 12:30 am respectively.
Dubai Astronomy Group is hosting the observation
Space enthusiasts and science fiction fanatics can enjoy the experience with the Dubai Astronomy Group as they’re organizing an observatory event of the eclipse at Mushrif Park. They’ll be presenting the science of the eclipse, provide a telescopic observation and serve dinner. The offer is for 100 dhs for children(below 15 y/o) and 150 Dhs for adults. The eclipse will also be an opportunity for photographers to capture insta-worthy shots!
