Work on the Dubai Expo 2020 route means that the Dubai Metro Red Line is to run from 2 pm to 1 am every Friday from January 31 to March 13. The Red Line stretches from Jebel Ali to Rashadiya.
The news was announced by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and affects Friday, January 31, February 7, 14, 21, and 28, and March 6 and 13.
The Red Line metro service will start at 2 pm rather than at 4 am and run until 1 am the next morning. Normal metro timings will then apply from March 14 onwards.
New timings, new opportunities?
While it might cause a change in travel schedules, it also offers up a wide range of travel possibilities.
Meaning you can now use the Metro for a night out or to get back from the beach or brunch. Or you could just use it as an excuse to sit in the AC and catch up on the latest Dubailad news.
Abdul Mohsen Ebrahim Younes, CEO of Rail Agency, RTA said the change was needed to “carry out operational tests for the integration of the systems of Route 2020. It will also ensure that the regular service on those days is not disrupted,” said Younes.
We’re also keeping our fingers crossed for another Dubai Metro Festival like last year
