New Pay-as-you-throw’ fees has been introduced by Dubai Municipality in an attempt to encourage residents and citizens in UAE to take up recycling.
Disposal fees starts from 20 dhs
Four types of fees will be implemented by Dubai Municipality, starting with recyclable materials(free of organic waste) costing 20 dhs and recyclable materials(mixed with organic waste) costing 30 dhs, followed by organic waste costing 30 dhs and general municipal waste costing 80 dhs. The rates are based on per tonne.

Waste transport firms will receive the fees
Companies with large amounts of waste will have to pay to companies dealing with waste transportation, who have to pay Dubai Municipality by creating an account with them. Trucks and vehicles delivering the waste will have to get a tag, costing 300 dhs for every entry.
Sustainability is a major objective of Vision 2021
Part of the National Agenda, the UAE Vision 2021 will mark 50 years of UAE’s independence and it was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE. The vision consists of four components and one of the objectives are for UAE to have ‘Sustainable Environment and Infrastructure’, part of the component ‘United in Prosperity.’ The contributors to this objective consists of ten government entities in charge of infrastructure and nine municipalities in charge of public works, including Dubai Municipality.
