Dubai passenger found with nearly 1kg of gold smuggled in his, erm, bum

A passenger flying out from Dubai was stopped at Indian customs after nearly 1kg of gold was found smuggled in his, how do we put this, bum.

The man was screened by airport officials at Kerala’s Kannur airport in India and found to have four gold ingots smuggled in his rectum. Reports indicate that officials were alerted to his smuggling after he was spotted ‘walking awkwardly.’ He probably still is after seeing the pictures below!

Gold smuggling in India is a frequent problem. As there’s an 18% tax on gold in the country, smugglers think the profits outweigh the risks of being caught.

And then there’s the embarrassment of being caught with 500g smuggled where the sun doesn’t shine. Awkward! That hasn’t put some off, however. Just scroll a little further down the Twitter feed and you see another man arrested several days ago after 500g of gold were found smuggled in his bum. Yikes!

Now for some good news

If you’ve been bombarded by all the bad news this year, there’s some good news to share. In fact, all the good news!

A Dubai teenager has started a brand new website where the only news is good news. And after the year we’ve had, the DubaiLAD team 100% agree!

Anoushka Ghosh started her Happy News website earlier this year and pulls together feel-good news from across the world. And as well as good news, the website also covers good news in business, sport, entertainment and technology.

A 17-year-old Anoushksa told the Gulf News: “As I looked around, the news is not all gloomy. There are sprouts of positivity growing in different places in the world which are just not getting the news space that it should get in people’s mind. I felt such news need to be actively promoted, as positivity needs to be spread, not only for our mental health but also for the economy. It is like a happiness-booster website with doses of positivity.”
