Nearly 30,000 fake Rolex, Gucci and Cartier watches have been seized by Dubai Police in Dubai in a huge raid.
The fake watches, said to have a street value of AED1.2 billion, were found in a flat in Naif. Two men were arrested following the raid.
“They had hidden the watches in a flat in the Naif area. Thousands of fake watches carrying logos of famous brands were stored in the flat in order to sell them to shops and individuals. They were worth Dh1.2 billion,” Brig Al Jallaf said at a press conference at the Dubai Police headquarters in Al Qusais.
Tick tock, tick tock
We have a few questions about this the fake watches in Dubai.
How did they have room to store nearly 30,000 watches?
And how – HOW – could anyone even step foot into a flat containing 30,000 ticking watches, the noise must have been deafening!
Also, who was in charge of putting the watches to the right time and adding batteries? That’s a full-time job right there!
The two men are likely to face jail and a fine ranging from Dh10,000 to Dh50,000.
According to Dubai Police, 2,402 fake items Dh6.8 billion were seized between 2015 to 2019. The Dubai Department of Economic Development is also very proactive when it comes to forgeries, and recently shut down nearly 14,000 social media profiles involved in fake goods.
