Dubai Students Come Up With Solution To Get Rid of Massage Cards

A group of Dubai-based students have designed a robot that will exchange massage cards for loyalty programme points.

If you’ve lived in Dubai long enough, you’ve probably been noticed how streets in areas like Barsha Heights have been littered with massage cards. Well, a group of students have come up with a solution to get rid of them.

Robot can exchange cards with loyalty points

Students, Arepaka, Atin Sakeer, Ethan Hadimani, Sanjay Pramod and Vaibhav Arepaka from Our Own High School, Al Warqa’a developed a robot named E=MC2, which will exchange massage cards for points part of a loyalty program.

E=MC2 may be Einsteins most famous formula, however, in this instance, it’s an abbreviation for ‘Earn Through Massage Card Collector.’

Here’s how the system can differentiate between massage cards and others

“It basically works like a vending machine which can check whether the note being fed into it is Dh5 or Dh10. We are using sensors and ML programming techniques to sort out the cards and count them precisely, eliminating the rest.”

Concept still unlicensed

As of now, the concept is unlicensed. However, the students are approaching government organizations the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Municipality.

“Now, since we are fully assured that our machine works well, we are ready to introduce it to the world. We are now planning to approach the Dubai Municipality and the RTA to put this project to good use. It is ready for use and once the RTA agrees on the nol-point system, we can install the software on the machine.”
