Dubai tennis competition first to give NFTs as prizes

NFTs have taken the internet by storm in the last 12 months and for the first time, they’ve been awarded as prizes at a mainstream event.

Ultimate ZONE Play Challenge took place at the Tie Break Tens competition recently in Dubai. The tennis event put some of the best players in the world against each other as they battled it out for AED500,000.

Two competitors from the Tie Break Tens then took on eSports FIFA champion Musaed Dossary in a FIFA battle to end all battles!

The two tennis players weren’t just any old tennis players, however. They were Taylor Fritz and Gael Monfils. Two seriously elite athletes who are also heavily into gaming: Monfils is an active gaming streamer with 150,000 followers on Twitch while Fritz has won over $600,000 for charity in gaming competitions.

The competition went with form.

20-year-old Saudi Arabian Musaed Dossary, also known as MSDossary7 won rather convincingly. Then again, he has won the FUT Champions Cup three times and is one of the most followed and watched FIFA players in the world.

And, as the winner, he took home an ultra-valuable, rare NFT – the AFK Elephant.

ZONE CEO Adi Mishra said, “Nothing has ever been done like this before. We [had] two of the most popular tennis players in the world face off against the reigning FIFA esports champ for an AFK Elephant NFT.”
