Flights between Dubai and the UK are now banned after the UAE was added to the UK’s travel “red list” over fears of new Covid strains.
Transport Secretary Grant Shappsalso announced Burundi and Rwanda were new additions to the list. The new travel ban comes into effect from 1 pm on Friday.
The UK to Dubai travel ban not only applies to direct flights but also for those who have transited through Dubai.
The Dubai to London route was recently announced as the busiest flight in the world. Dubai was also named the world’s busiest airport for international traffic for the sixth year in a row.
Emirates one of the first airlines to trial a Covid travel pass
Emirates has become one of the first airlines to trail a new travel pass which will require passengers to have had a vaccine or have a recent negative Covid-19 test.
The IATA Travel Pass is a ‘digital passport‘ which will allow passengers to share their travel test or vaccination result with their destination.
Emirates are due to roll the first phase of the travel pass in April including using the app to validate all Covid-19 PCR tests before departure. Once you upload your results, it will then be shared with the airline check-in system and local authorities.
Adel Al Redha Emirates’ Chief Operating Officer said: “While international travel remains as safe as ever, there are new protocols and travel requirements with the current global pandemic. We have worked with IATA on this innovative solution to simplify and digitally transmit the information that is required by countries and governments into our airline systems, in a secure and efficient manner. We are proud to be one of the first airlines in the world to pilot this initiative, which will provide an enhanced customer experience and conveniently facilitate our customers’ travel needs.”
The app will also let users check what travel restrictions and requirements are needed for their destination. And you can also use the app to find testing and vaccination centres.
