Researchers in Dubai are working on a new breath test that could detect Covid-19 within 60 seconds.
The research is part of a clinical trail between the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Breathonix, a company from Singapore.
And if it’s successful, the researchers claim they’ll be able to accurately test for Covid-19 in less than a minute. All by simply blowing into a mouthpiece and then analysing the ‘volatile organic compound.’
Researchershave said it could be a game-changer. And take the pressure and time constraints away from laboratories.
“If approved and implemented, this technology will significantly reduce the burden on laboratory processing,” added Dr. Nada Al Mulla, director of DHA’s Nadd Al Hamar Primary Healthcare Sector.
“It will drastically reduce the time taken to get the results in comparison to the presently available testing methods such as the PCR test.
“The breath test for screening COVID-19 is highly efficient for mass screening especially in areas of high-traffic.”
The non-invasive technique is sure to be a lot more pleasant than the anal Covid-19 swabs being carried out in China.
Fang added: “It is also quick and easy to train people on how to carry out the test, so it can be easily rolled out to testing sites.”
