As we announced last week, Dubai has embraced the e-scooter revolution and has started a trial across five areas in the city.
And the RTA has now clarified the rules for e-scooter riders in the city. You can only park your scooter in designated spots and only one rider is allowed at a time. Riders must wear a helmet at all times and be at least 14 years old.
Riders should use traffic laws and wheel their scooter across pedestrian crossings. And riders can only use designated tracks and are not allowed to wear headphones while riding.
The five e-scooter zones are Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard, Dubai Internet City, 2nd of December Street, Al Rigga and Jumeirah Lake Towers.
You can hire scooters from local suppliers Arnab and Skurrt and from global companies Careem, Lime and Tier.
e-scooters have gone from a cool toy to a global form of transport in recent years. And they’re perfect for Dubai’s sunny climate and for linking up with our metro and public transport networks. Plus, with a speed of around 20km/h, they’re often faster than getting caught up in traffic! And the electric motor-powered scooters are much better for the environment than a chugging car or taxi pushing out fumes and burning petrol.
