Emirates cancels flights from seven African countries

Emirates are trying to contain the spread of a new strain of Covid-19 that could be vaccine-resistant by stopping flights from seven African countries.

Emirates has suspended all passenger flights from South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

The new variant has is the most heavily mutated version discovered so far.

The B.1.1.529 variant has now been called Omicron by the World Health Organisation.

The flight ban starts from Monday, November 29 and will remain in place until further notice. The flight ban also includes transit passengers.
