The Emirates Post Group (EmPost) has warned residents about one of the latest scams doing the rounds in the UAE. Residents who receive texts or What’sApp messages in the name of EmPost, offering the chance to win a Samsung Galaxy S10 should ignore the message. Such promotions are confirmed as a scam and are unrelated to EmPost.
UAE residents beware
The scam is not the first of its kind to surface in the UAE. Many residents have at some point received unsolicited texts from scammers posing as well known companies in the country, such as banks, telecoms providers and now EmPost.
In this latest con, the criminals behind the scheme send an SMS or What’sApp message to residents offering them the chance to win a Samsung Galaxy S10 by participating in a special promotion in exchange for personal information. EmPost has released an official statement confirming it is not involved in any such promotion:
“There is a fraudulent campaign in the name of Emirates Post asking customers to participate in winning a Samsung S10. Please note that this did not come from Emirates Post and is therefore not under the group’s liability.”
Recipients advised to delete the messages immediately
EmPost has advised recipients of the scam message to delete it immediately. The organisation also confirmed that it is working with Cyber Security and local authorities to tackle the issue.
We advise that you delete the fraudulent link/message immediately to protect your personal information. We are working with Cyber Security and the authorities to bring an end to this scam and to prosecute those who created it.#EmiratesPostpic.twitter.com/FLcxLkX4e4
