If your Facebook and Instagram feeds don’t refresh and your messages don’t deliver on WhatsApp, you’re not alone. The social media moguls have been facing outages in the UAE and across some parts of the world.
Global outages on Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram
It appears that Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp works absolutely fine in some countries, but they’ve been suffering outages in other parts of the world, such as UAE, parts of Latin America, Philippines and Turkey. The outage partially affected apps that are linked with Facebook too, including Tinder and Spotify.
Servers down after maintenance
Facebook’s maintenance team says its servers are down because they’re working on improving their database. They said, “This usually means we’re making an improvement to the database your account is stored on. While this process won’t affect your account, you temporarily won’t be able to access the site. Keep in mind, we don’t do site maintenance on all accounts at the same time. It’s possible that your friends will be able to access the site while your account is still unavailable.”
History of outages
It isn’t the first time Facebook suffered outages. The last time was in 2015, after a change to the platform’s configuration. Before that, the social media giant suffered an outage in 2010 due to overwhelmed database caches, leading them to temporarily shut down its website to redesign its platforms configuration system.
