Gael Monfils To Play At Mubadala World Tennis Championship

Gael Monfils has just been announced as the next player in the 6 man line up at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship. He is the 7th player to be revealed out of a total of 8 players featuring two female stars and 6 men. The final name to be announced is still under wraps.

Five of the world’s top 10 players set to play this year

Gael Monfils is yet another big superstar of the tennis world joining the championship this year. Ranked world no.10, his participation means that the competition will see five of the world’s top 10 players joining the matches. Monfils last competed at the event back in 2011 so his return this year marks an exciting comeback to the famous championship.

Monfils has seen a number of impressive triumphs this year, claiming the title at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam after defeating fellow 2019 MWTC competitor Daniil Medvedev. He also went onto make the quarter-finals of the US Open in August.

Thanks to a strong and highly accurate serve, the 33 year old is known for his athletic and consistent performances. Currently the holder of eight career titles on the ATP circuit, Monfils has also reached the semi-finals of the French and the US Open.

Monfils joins a superstar line up

Excitement for the upcoming Championship which takes place from 19th-21st December has been building with the announcement of each player. Spectators are in for a real treat this year with some huge names on the bill. Already confirmed for the men’s matches are World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, No. 2 Novak Djokovic, No. 5 Daniil Medvedev; and No. 6 and 2019 ATP Tour Final winner Stefanos Tsitsipas. Two women will also feature and have been revealed as five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova who is set to take on rising star Amanda Anisimova. The pair will go head to head in the women’s match on Day 1.

Day 1 at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship is guaranteed to be an action packed day which all the family can enjoy. Mubadala World Tennis Championship starts this year on Thursday, 19th December until Saturday, 21st December at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex.
