Karaoke bar Lucky Voice isn’t just blessed with all our wonderful voices – they have some incredible talent of their own. Including their resident singer-songwriter Daniel Batchelor. The hugely talented singer hosts the Tuesday and Thursday night sessions from 9 pm – midnight while he’s also played at the F1, Dubai Motor Show and for Playstation.
And he’s the very definition of eclectic, playing covers from a wide range of genres including (deep breath!) pop, rock, reggae, RnB, folk, dance, drum and bass, indie, swing and more.
So with live music and entertainment very much back at Lucky Voice, we caught up with Daniel to talk pandemics, karaoke and why he can’t cover a certain Police classic any more!
How has your 2020 been so far? We’re guessing getting back to being on stage has been one of the highlights?
Its been a strange year so far, all my plans had to change due to the current pandemic. I became an Uncle and was due to fly home to England to meet the little guy but doesn’t look like that will happen very soon. I’ve been lucky enough to have had time to do things that I wouldn’t have got round to doing in a long time but for sure getting back on stage and performing is great as I’ve really missed it.
What tracks do you find resonate now more than previously?
The Police – Don’t Stand So Close To Me.
At first, I wasn’t fussed by the news of this virus, but the more it was in the media, the more aware everyone became of personal space and the term social distancing.
Apart from that, I guess any song about missing people as everyone has had to limit interactions with their friends and family.
You’ve been in the UAE for a long time – how has the music scene evolved since you’ve been here?
With the addition of more hotels and venues, there have been many new live music venues open which are great and give fellow musicians more opportunities to perform and the public more places to go and enjoy live entertainment
You’ve also played across the UAE – what is it you love about the Lucky Voice crowd and setting?
It’s a proper live entertainment venue with a great stage, sound system, fantastic staff and a fantastic audience that love to get involved with lots of requests and sing along with me.
And what’s your go-to karaoke song?
It depends on what mood I’m in, the great thing about karaoke is you don’t have to play an instrument so I can sing songs that I wouldn’t normally perform whilst playing the guitar.
If I had to choose it would either be Craig David ‘7 Days’ or Frank Sinatra’s ‘Fly Me To The Moon’.
Tuesdays at Lucky Voice
Head down on Tuesdays to catch Daniel do his thing, and you can also get some incredible deals at the Lucky Ladies & Gents Night. Like three drinks for ladies. The DubaiLAD team will see you there, woohoo!
