Giorgio Moroder, The Father of Disco, Is Coming To Armani / Privē

Even if you haven’t heard of Giorgio Moroder, you will have definitely listened to his material. The Italian music mogul has been labelled a pioneer of Italian disco and EDM as well as being credited for the creation of several music genres such as new wave, house and techno. In his musical career, the songwriter, DJ and record producer has worked with some HUGE names from 80’s pop sensations to modern day artists. His list of achievements is startling and it’s no wonder he’s racked up 3 Academy Awards, 4 Golden Globes and 4 Grammys in his time.

Giorgio will be making an appearance at Armani / Privē this Halloween October 31st. You can get your tickets here to see this absolute legend.

In the meantime, we thought we’d round up some of his most notable collaborations. Prepare for some amazing throwbacks…

1. I feel love – Donna Summer

Giorgio is known for his work with Donna Summer. Thanks to producing a string of chart toppers, he propelled the young starlet into musical fame. Let us take you back to this absolute banger from 1977. It still sounds just as fresh now as it did then…

2. Danger Zone – Kenny Loggins

1986 action film Top Gun featured a number of hits that gave the film its legendary soundtrack. Giorgio worked with Berlin to produce “Take My Breath Away”, but our favourite from Tom Cruise’s best known film is Danger Zone, which Moroder produced with Kenny Loggins.

3. Push It To The Limit  from the Scarface Soundtrack – Paul Angeman

Another movie classic, Giorgio produced “Push It To The Limit” for the 1983 motion picture. It has since been sampled and remixed by Giorgio himself and a number of other artists. It has even featured in an episode of The Simpsons and South Park.

4. Never Ending Story – Limahl

Whilst we’re in the 80’s, it would be rude not to mention “Never Ending Story”. The 1984 soundtrack to the popular film of the same name topped the charts in Europe and the US. Giorgio produced the song with Keith Forsey who wrote the lyrics. It was sung at the time by 80’s popstar, Limahl. However, it recently saw a resurrection thanks to being featured in the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, which sees the characters doing their own rendition of the song. Check it out in that episode here:

5. Call Me – Blondie

Giorgio was really killing it in the 80’s and we could easily pick a top ten just from that era, but we’re going to finish the decade with, “Call Me” by Blondie. Moroder produced the song for the 1980 film, American Gigolo and on its release, the track dominated the Billboard Hot 100 at number 1 for six weeks in the US, as well as topping the charts in the UK and Canada.

6. Giorgio by Moroder – Giorgio Moroder & Daft Punk

Ok, as promised, I’m letting go of the 80’s and moving on. Daft Punk worked with Giorgio on this track named after the man himself. It features some very cool audio from the producer talking about how at only 16, he knew he wanted to get out of his small town life and pursue his dream to become a musician and composer. It has a very chilled but electronic vibe that we love.

7. Déjà vu – Giorgio Moroder ft. Sia

Moroder teamed up with vocal powerhouse, Sia for this modern pop track. Sia has become famous in the last few years in her own right, thanks to a string of hits that she has written and produced for herself and other big artists. This pairing with Giorgio seems like a match made in heaven.

8. Tom’s Diner – Giorgio Moroder ft. Britney

Another collaboration, Giorgio reproduced Suzanne Vegas 1984 song, ‘Tom’s Diner’ and featured pop princess, Britney Spears. The partnership saw the song revived with a modern day edge to it that had fans singing its praises.

9. Right Here, Right Now – Giorgio Moroder ft. Kylie

His other 2015 pop princess collab featured Australian pint-sized singer Kylie Minogue. The funky dance track was well received by critics who commented on Moroder’s ever-evolving sound and ability to stay ahead of modern music through the decades.

10. The Moroder Supercar – Cizeta Moroder V16T

You were expecting another song weren’t you? Well, just to mix things up we thought we’d give you a fun fact about Mr Moroder. He’s the only musician to have a supercar named after him. Check out this beauty…the Cizeta Moroder V16T:
