Huge storm batters eastern edge of the UAE

It might not have felt like it in Dubai, but there has been a serious storm battering the Eastern edge of the UAE including Hatta and Sharjah.

Some amazing videos have been taken of heavy rains battering various parts of the UAE.

The storm has largely been on the eastern side of the UAE. And it’s hit hard, with wadis and roads flooded.

Check out the video below from the National Centre for Meteorology.

This video gives a good idea of where the rain has been falling.

And as you can see from this video, it’s made conditions pretty tough in the mountains!

The rain storm is due to hang around today and into the weekend but it should remain largely in the eastern parts of the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed says Dubai one of the ‘safest cities on earth’ thanks to its 300,000 cameras

Dubai is watched around the clock by more than 300,000 cameras making it one of the world’s safest cities according to Sheikh Mohammed.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai made the comments earlier today on a tour of the Dubai Police headquarters.

Sheikh Mohammed was briefed on some of the cutting-edge AI used by Dubai Police. Computers can now distribute “security patrols in Dubai according to economic and tourism importance without human intervention.”

Which is pretty amazing when you stop to think about it.

Sheikh Mohammed was also briefed on the ‘Eyes’ project which monitors more than 300,000 cameras in Dubai.
