World records continue to flourish in the city and this new record by Dubai Multi Commodities Centre(DMCC) spans a whopping six thousand square meters.
Largest jigsaw puzzle now belongs to Dubai
DMCC broke the Guinness World Record for the largest jigsaw puzzle in the world. The puzzle was made with 12,000 wooden pieces of puzzles put together spanning across 6,000 sqm. It’s located at the Uptown Dubai district next to Jumeirah Lakes Towers(JLT). The area was previously known as Burj2020 District.
Previous record belonged to Hong Kong
Previously, the world’s largest jigsaw puzzle belonged to Hong Kong, which stretched 5,428 sqm and it was located at the former Kai Tak International Airport, using its abandoned layover ground. Even though the jigsaw is no longer there, it required 777 people to assemble its 21,600 pieces. Fun fact, while the airport was operational, it was ranked as the sixth most dangerous airport by The History Channel.
World record was part of the national initiative
DMCC attempted this world record not only to earn a new record but also to honour UAE’s founding father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Last year, UAE’s President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced 2018 to be the ‘Year of Zayed’, marking his centennial year celebrations. Numerous initiatives were organized by the federal government and the emirates to celebrate and honour the late founding father.
Dubai Police recently broke a world record for the longest iftar table
During the holy month of Ramadan last month, Dubai Police successfully attempted a Guinness World Record for the longest iftar table, stretching up to 6.2 kilometres and served iftar to 12,830 workers. The world record attempt happened at the Dubai Industrial Park, involving 35 restaurants and 500 volunteers. This world record was also in line with the ‘Year of Zayed’ initiatives.
