World-famous house DJ and regular Dubai visitor Erick Morillo has been found dead at a property in Florida.
The American DJ was found by Miami police this morning at a property near the beach.
The 49-year-old DJ and musician was a huge name on the dance music scene and has toured the world pretty much constantly for over 30 years, including dozens of shows in Dubai.
But his recent years had been troubled for the Subliminal Records founder. He’d first overcome drug addiction. And more recently, he’d been charged with sexual battery against a female DJ in December 2019.
I Like To Move It
Erick Morillo first made his name under Reel 2 Real, creating ‘I Like To Move It’ which went on to become a global hit, making him a millionaire. The track later became a mainstay in the Madagascar film franchise, opening up his classic track to a whole new fanbase.
As a DJ, he was one of the biggest on the planet, known for his technical sets that and his driving house sound that crossed deep, soulful and tech sounds.
DJs including David Guetta paid tribute to his music and influence on social media.
But ultimately, it’s a shame that his musical legacy will be remembered for his alleged sexual misconduct.
