British superstar Idris Elba could soon be adding a DC movie to his resume, as he’s in talks of taking up the role of Deadshot in the Suicide Squad 2.
Idris Elba in talks of playing Deadshot
DC introduced Suicide Squad in its cinematic universe in 2016, featuring antiheroes Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Boomerang, Captain Boomerang, Rick Flag, Amanda Walker, Katana and Enchantress. Deadshot, played by Will Smith, played the leader of the crew. However, the 50-year-old actor backed out from playing the antihero due to scheduling conflicts and the offer was then passed on to Idris Elba.
Suicide Squad sequel in the works
Plans for a Suicide Squad sequel have been in the works since DC acquired new writers for the script last June. Gavin O’Connor, the filmmaker behind blockbuster hits like Ben Affleck’s ‘The Accountant’ and Tom Hardy’s “Warrior” will be directing the sequel, slated for a mid-August 2021 release. What’s more, Harley Quinn star Margot Robbie gave a teaser of her look in the upcoming sequel last January.
Idris Elba starring in upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff
Meanwhile, the 46-year-old actor is starring in the upcoming Fast & Furious franchise’s spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw. The film follows the never-ending banter between Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) to battle Elba, who’s termed as an “enhanced terrorist who has superhuman strength.” Check out the teaser:
