India wins Nidahas trophy, defeating Bangladesh off the last ball

Chasing 166 in 20 overs, the Indian Cricket Team defeated Bangladesh off the last ball and emerged winners of the Nidahas trophy, winning three games out of four.

Dinesh Karthik was declared Man of the Match for scoring 29*.

Scoring 29 runs of just 8 balls, Dinesh Karthik changed fortunes for the men in blue when he arrived to crease at a point of time when Bangladesh had higher chances of winning. For the last ball of the innings, India required 5 runs and Dinesh Karthik is now the second Indian to win a T20i match hitting a six of the last ball. Also, Indian Cricket Tem captain Rohit Sharma admitted he didn’t watch Karthik score the winning runs and was padding up, assuming the match would end to a super over.

The Nidahas trophy was held to celebrate Sri Lanka’s 70 years of independence.

Nidahas, which literally means ‘freedom’ in Sinhalese, was celebrated on February 4 across Sri Lanka as they marked 70 years of independence. To celebrate the landmark year, Sri Lanka Cricket hosted the Nidahas trophy, a tournament played between Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh. Though Sri Lanka didn’t win the series, they won the first match versus India at the R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo.

India’s next international fixture is against Afghanistan.

Upcoming months April and May will bring international cricketing stars together playing in the Indian Premier League from April 4 to May 27, followed by a historic test match against Afghanistan, the latest cricketing nation to achieve test cricket status and will be playing its first ever test match from 14th June.
