Israeli footballer signs for Dubai club in AED10 million deal

Dubai club Al-Nasr has signed Israeli footballer Diaa Sabia in a deal worth around AED10 million.

The 27-year old was signed from China’s Guangzhou R&F on a two-year deal. And the team proudly welcomed him to their ‘Blue Castle’ for the upcoming season.

It’s the first time a Dubai team – or in fact, any team from the Gulf – has signed an Israeli footballer. And it comes less than two weeks after the UAE and Israel confirmed their normalisation deal.

Sabia was born in northern Israel but is of Palestinian descent. He moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2012 and Maccabi Netanya in 2014 before making the move to China.

An attacking midfielder, he’s scored 50 goals in 111 games including 24 in the 2018 season. He also has 10 caps for the Israeli national team.

Camel beauty competition

In other sporting news – yes, we know we’re using the word sporting loosely here – a Camel Beauty competition is coming back to the UAE.

The UAE camel beauty competition is part of the 14th Al Dhafra Festival which is taking place later this year.

The beauty doesn’t just stop at camels though. C’mon, this is 2020!

You can also get involved with falcon and goat beauty contests.

All the camel/goat/falcon-fancying action takes place at Madinat Zayed in Al Dhafrah. The festival runs from November 5 until the end of January 2021.
