This Wednesday, 1st of September 1, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will be opening its biggest underground Metro station!
The Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station is being opened earlier than expected, a month before the Expo 2020 kicks off!
The new station is part of Route 2020 and will connect residential communities such as IMPZ, Dubai Production City, and Dubai Sports City to the Metro network.
Residents are extremely happy by the announcement as it will make their commute a lot shorter!
The new station distances over 28,700 square metres and can serve 11,555 riders per hour during peak times, and up to 250,000 per day.
There are two boarding platforms, 20 taxi stands, four bus stops, and 400 free parking lots.
The facility also has 14 outlets for investors over an area of 466 square metres, in addition to four point of sale display areas for retailers.
The opening is taking place just eight months after the launch of Route 2020 which route’s maiden journey began on the first day of 2021 with four stations.
For now, access to the Expo 2020 station is restricted to those who are allowed to go to the Expo site but it will be opening officially to the public on 1 October when the event kicks off.
The RTA says that Route 2020 stations design has a exclusive and stylish winged architectural pattern which reflects “Dubai’s take-off to the future of innovation”.
The RTA predicts that the number of riders using the route will reach 125,000 per day in 2021 and grow even higher to 275,000 per day by the year 2030.
