The world’s tallest Ferris Wheel is one step closer to completion as the first pod was attached to the Ain Dubai recently.
The first of 48 pods have now been officially installed. And the following 47 capsules are “scheduled for gradual installation” according to a spokesperson.
The first pod is now being slowly rotated around the structure.
The 250m-high Ferris Wheel dominates the Bluewaters Island and was originally due to open at the start of Expo 2020 Dubai.
The huge structure will be the biggest of its kind in the world. Which will make it taller than both the 167m High Roller in Las Vegas and the 190m planned New York Wheel.
And we honestly can’t wait to get into one of the pod’s and take in the views. Although that said, some of the DubaiLAD team are a little scared of heights so we might have our eyes closed all the way around!
Ain means eye in Arabic, making it the Dubai Eye.
There are 2,400km of cables involved in the wheel. Which is enough to stretch from Dubai to Turkey.
Ain Dubai uses 25% more steel than The Eiffel Tower.
Each trip will last 48 minutes.
Oh, and the really brave will be able to climb the central frame and then abseil down from the top when it does open. Eek!
