London to Dubai now the busiest flight route in the world

Dubai to Heathrow is now officially the world’s busiest flight route after a surge in ticket sales this winter.

In total, 782,932 return seats have been booked on the Dubai to Heathrow schedule.

The second busiest flight also involved the Middle East, with 746,833 seats booked on the Cairo to Jeddah schedule.

Dubai features four times in the top 10 busiest destinations including flights to Delhi (4th), Mumbai (8th) and Cairo (9th).

With travel restrictions still in place for many countries around the world, the busiest routes are very different from normal.

The previous number one flight was Hong Kong to Taipei but that’s not even in the Top 10 this time around.

Heathrow currently operates 35 weekly flights to Dubai including 26 with Emirates and nine with British Airways. That’s down from 63 at the same time last year.

Emirates one of the first airlines to trial a Covid travel pass

Emirates has become one of the first airlines to trail a new travel pass which will require passengers to have had a vaccine or have a recent negative Covid-19 test.

The IATA Travel Pass is a ‘digital passport‘ which will allow passengers to share their travel test or vaccination result with their destination.
