Several major roads in Dubai including Sheikh Zayed Road will be temporarily closed tomorrow as they host the Dubai Ride cycling event. The event is part of the Dubai Fitness Challenge to get residents out and exercising. And there are rumours that Sheikh Hamdan might also be appearing!
The following roads will all be closed between 4 and 8 am tomorrow morning.
– Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed, use Al Khail Road as an alternative route.
– Lower Financial Centre Road will be closed, head to Upper Financial Centre Road for the alternative route.
– Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard will be closed, use Burj Khalifa Road instead.
The Dubai Ride
The Dubai Ride is a 14km ride across Dubai that takes in some of the city’s most famous landmarks. As well as passing through Downtown Dubai, around Business Bay and over Dubai Canal, you’ll also get to go cycling down Sheikh Zayed Road on two wheels. Which is very very cool. And the first time it’s ever happened in the city’s history. Wheely cool, in fact.
The ride is free to enter and available for people of all ages and abilities. There is also a 4km ride for families and children. But the DubaiLAD team will definitely be getting our bikes out for the main ride. If only so we can cruise down Sheikh Zayed Road in the fast lane at 20mph and not get tailgated or beeped at.
