Man accidentally ejects himself from fighter jet during surprise flight

If 2020 could be summed up in a ridiculous headline, this would be it. Man accidentally ejects himself from fighter jet during surprise flight.

There’s a lot to unpack there. So we’ll start at the beginning.

A 64-year-old man accidentally ejected himself at 500kmp during a fighter jet flight that work colleagues had bought him.

He accidentally reached for the ejector seat shortly after take-off in his Dassault Rafale B jet. And quickly found himself looking down on the plane from his parachute a few seconds later.

Our favourite part of this story – apart from he was unhurt, of course – is that the flying French man had never expressed a desire to fly in a fighter jet. But he still went through with it.

Well, not for long, obviously, as he ejected just seconds after take-off.

The first rule of flight club is…

The accident took place in Northern France last year and the details were announced during a recent investigation.

The man lost his bearings due to the G-force shortly after take-off, causing him to stand up. As he did so, he pulled on the ejection handle to steady himself. He landed a minute later safely in a nearby field with only minor injuries.

So, the moral of this story is… it’s OK to say no. Especially when it’s saying no to pretending to be in Top Gun when you’ve never watched Top Gun.
