We’ve all had our share of bad luck this year, so you can’t really complain when a meteorite smashes through your roof and you, in turn, become a millionaire. That seems like a bit of karma, to be honest. Although, we’re equally surprised it didn’t turn out to be a lump of kryptonite.
The 2.1kg meteorite smashed into a house in Indonesia and the man who found it sold it to an expert for around AED7 million. Who knew a meteorite could make you a millionaire?
Josua Hutagalung is a coffin maker and was outside his house making a coffin (as you do) when he heard a huge noise. Which turned out to be the space rock smashing through his tin roof.
He then found the rock embedded deep in his garden.
“The sound was so loud that parts of the house were shaking too. And after I searched, I saw that the tin roof of the house had broken,” he told Indonesia’s Kompas newspaper. “When I lifted it, the stone was still warm.”
The meteorite is made of carbonaceous chondrite, an extremely rare form of rock thought to be around 4.5 billion years old!
He now plans to retire and build a church in his community.
“I have also always wanted a daughter, and I hope this is a sign that I will be lucky enough now to have one,” he said.
Good luck from the DubaiLAD team, let’s hope your daughter doesn’t crash through the roof as well.
