WBA welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is openly challenging Floyd Mayweather to a match after returning to the ring to defend his WBA light welterweight title against Adrien Broner last Saturday.
Manny Pacquiao defeated Adrien Broner 112-50
After 12 high octane rounds, in which Manny Pacquaio (61-7-2, 39 KOs.) was very much the aggressor, the Senator from Philippines did enough in the judges eyes to win a comfortable unanimous decision against Adrien Broner (33-4-1, 24 KOs) in front of a sold-out Garden Arena at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The 40-year-old Filipino legend, who made a comeback to boxing in the US after two years, showed no signs of weariness or exhaustion.
Last Saturday’s fight also witnessed Pacquiao suffer a scratched cornea in his left eye. Following his victory, the boxing veteran appeared in a post-fight news conference wearing dark glasses. Although he didn’t talk about it, his publicist, Fred Sternburg claims it’ a minor injury. He told ESPN, “He had a patch on his eye and was told it was a scratched cornea and they put an antibiotic ointment in his eye.”
Open challenge for Floyd Mayweather
It appears Pacquiao is keen on seeking revenge against Floyd Mayweather after losing the ‘Fight of the Century’ four years ago. Mayweather, who was among the 13,025 attendees at MGM Grand’s Garden Arena, received an open challenge by Pacquiao. He said, “Tell him to come back to the ring, and we will fight. I’m willing to fight again to Floyd Mayweather if he’s willing to come back in boxing.”
