Rap royalty, Eminem is making an appearance in Abu Dhabi later this month, headlining at the Du Arena, Yas Island. Aside from being a megastar in his own right, Eminem has collaborated with a number of global artists over the years to create some amazing material. With that in mind, we felt inspired to bring you Our Top 5 Eminem collaborations of All Time.
1. Dr Dre – ‘Forgot About Dre’ (2001)
This classic track from Dr Dre heavily features Eminem. The song won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2001 Grammy Awards. It climbed the charts after its release in 2001, reaching No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 14 on the U.S. R&B chart, No. 32 on the U.S. Pop chart, and No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart. Eminem’s lyrics stand out as his alter-ego Slim Shady, reminding Dre’s critics that the rapper is still very much around and relevant.
2. Jay Z- ‘Renegade’ (2001)
This collaboration with the legendary Jay Z stands out for a few reasons. The song, which featured on Jay Z’s sixth album, The Blueprint, is the only one to feature a guest artist. Clearly Jazzy had some serious admiration for his fellow rapper to invite him into the studio on this track. The general consensus was that Eminem stole the show, so much so, that Jay-Z’s rival Nas later took the opportunity to mention it in a diss track, saying that Eminem pretty much killed him at his own game.
3. Eminem ft. Dido – ‘Stan’
Released in 2000 as the third single from Eminem’s album, The Marshall Mathers LP, Stan was well received by critics. Dido contributed to the track with a mix of lyrics from her own song, ‘Thank you’ and the result was a match made in heaven. The single was met with praise and recognition from respected peers in the music world, including the Rolling Stone magazine, MTV Video Music Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards. It will always be remembered for its video which features a ‘Stan’, an obsessed fan of Eminem who goes off the rails.
4. Eminem ft. Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie (2010)
Eminem chose Rihanna to work with on this smash hit, Grammy nominated single from his 7th studio album Recovery. It was pipped as one of best tracks of 2010 and some critics even rated it the best of Eminem’s entire career. To date, it’s one of the rapper’s best-selling singles, second only to ‘Lose Yourself’. The song ranked number one on several record charts, including the United States’ Billboard Hot 100 for seven weeks. In the US, the single sold a whopping six million copies and one million in the UK.
5. BoB – Airplanes, Part II ft. Hayley Williams and Eminem (2010)
This three way collaboration between rapper B.o.B, Hayley Williams of Paramore and Eminem was a perfect recipe for a rap / pop anthem. The track received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals. Eminem raps, “Let’s pretend Marshall Mathers never picked up a pen..”. Yeah, we’d rather not thanks Eminem- that would be a tragedy. B.o.B described Eminem’s willingness to work together on the song as a “gift”.
